Outdoor Sofa

A custom-designed and built porch couch — because outdoor furniture is overpriced

June 2024 Ben Jacobson (CAD) · Noah Jacobson (Design/Construction)

Background

Motivation

Outdoor furniture is absurdly expensive for what it is. A basic porch couch runs $400–800 at retail. Building one from standard lumber costs a fraction of that and results in something more durable.

Process

I designed the frame in Onshape, constraining every dimension to standard lumber sizes so all cuts could be made from 2x4s and 2x6s from Home Depot — no ripping, no custom widths.

Construction

Noah contributed to the design and led most of the physical construction. The frame went together in a single weekend.
